  1. Kay, I'm so glad there is a cheaper solution. I've been worried for you all day. Every summer I hold my breath when we start the AC. For the last 3 years, my HVAC guy has been replacing parts to keep it going. It's at least 30 years old and he scrounges for parts. He told me last summer that it's on it's last leg and a new unit is around $12000. All I can do is cross my fingers. Barely have $12 to spare, much less $12000. Sure love these "Golden Years".
  2. I don't know my daughter's children well at all because of our distance from each other. The most time I've spent around them was the last month before Debbie died. My granddaughter was always immature, but very sweet. My grandson is very intelligent and politically outspoken. My granddaughter had been divorced and remarried for 2 years before I found out through my son's Facebook(which he rarely looks at). Same with these things about my grandson. Sometimes I feel like when I left Kentucky that last time, that they just erased me. I wouldn't even know what to say to them anymore. My bad, I guess but I have many other things to worry over. Marg, stay safe! I see Louisiana is having bad weather, although it appears to be in the south.
  3. Screw ins are super expensive and sound really painful. I'd had enough pain already. Looking forward to eating something besides soup and hamburger meat. It's surprising there are so many things that require teeth to eat. lol Fixing a pizza for the guys and a bowl of soup for me really sucks. I am watching "Heartland". Into Season 2 now. Would watch it for the beautiful scenery, if nothing else.
  4. I gave up trying to understand my grandchildren a long time ago. I found out recently that my oldest grandson has decided to "come out" as they say. Big surprise, but it's his life. I hope he is happy. What I really don't get is his new look. A Facebook photo shows him with a completely insane expression on his face wearing a stringy straw colored clown wig. Also has adopted a female name. Not the intelligent young man(works in IT) that I remember. I wonder if my daughter is turning in her grave. I also wonder if his father's mental illness has rubbed off. I am still toothless. Dentures still don't fit, so back to lab. Will try again next week.
  5. Cute little guy(or girl), Kevin. Looks to be a big dog some day. Do your 2 dogs get along okay?
  6. I fondly remember my 20's hiking in the wilderness, climbing cliffs, going into caves without proper gear, doing lots of crazy dangerous things. We were invincible. Not any more, for sure. Out of breath just walking from room to room now. lol Yes, picking up dentures Monday if they fit.
  7. Kay, you are an accident going somewhere to happen! lol Of course, you lead a MUCH more active life than I do, so more chances to get hurt. I have an appt. on Monday to get the new dentures.
  8. What a mess for you to deal with, Kay! Glad it was caught though and you got it straightened out. I have few passwords. I write them in a small book. Saw the dentist today about my dentures. First words he said were "Those are too big for your mouth. I'm going to make you a new one." And that was that! More impressions taken and returning next week to try new one. Fingers crossed.....
  9. Kay, your son is so talented. Truly a "jack of all trades". Hard to believe your grandson is 7 already!
  10. It's funny but I don't recall the dentist having much to do with the dentures, only the extractions. The dental techs did all the measuring, fitting, etc. Although they were nice and seemed knowledgeable, they are all hard to converse with. The dentist is from Puerto Rico and most of his staff appear to be also. He does have an excellent reputation. His service is definitely not personalized like my old dentist though. I really miss him.
  11. Nothing new here Kay. Just wash, rinse, repeat. Same old denture and vision problems. Need to see if dentures can be adjusted for correct fit. Top ones look like buck teeth. Can't close my lips over them. Just not right. Vision getting worse and scary. Really need to get dentures fixed so I can see a neurologist about eyes. Losing Gwen did seem to deflate us without warning. I also think back to when we had a disgruntled member who complained that we were discussing daily lives instead of grief. Perhaps she couldn't understand that this is our way of coping with loneliness and grief. Things also seemed to quiet down after that. It's all just life.
  12. You're looking at snow. I'm in 80 degrees. Go figure!
  13. Hey Kay! I just stay logged in as I check the site a few times a day. I'm usually awake until 6 or 7 in the morning. Was thinking about Gwen last night, how we would talk in the wee hours. Sure miss her and hope she is okay. Guess we'll never know.
  14. I second that , Marty. You are truly a lifesaver. Hope your day is special😀
  15. Marg, that is a book I won't forget, unlike the multitude of serial killer books I usually read. I chose it for the Alaska location and it turned out to be so much more than I expected. I'll be reading her other books when available. I remember one fellow in our group of friends who returned from Vietnam as mean as a snake. He had been a Green Beret and became a wife beater. Those of us who were safe at home can't imagine the horrors that were endured. My ex and his cousin joined the Coast Guard in 1963 at age 18 and missed the draft. I guess that was a good thing.
  16. So proud of you, Marg! I knew you would do great.
  17. Marg, are you floating away? I saw the floods in New Orleans on the weather channel. What a mess! Supposed to rain here for the next couple of days, but nothing like that.
  18. Nothing scary here. Mostly constant rain the last 2 days. Hope you get a break soon!
  19. Doesn't sound fun at all, Kay! So much different than our weather. In the 60's here. Rain expected early next week. Stay safe!
  20. Certainly have nothing to complain about here. It's been in the low 30's overnight. We never face the snow although the northern part of the state does. Noticed the terrible conditions in Chicago on the weather channel. Hope Gin is okay. Long time since we've heard from her.
  21. Glad you got the water fixed. Just really bad timing for you. Sounds like you need to carry a bat or bear spray on your walks and not only for the dog.
  22. Have never had to deal with a well. Even at our cabin, we had a water company. I think Ron's folks place had a well. It was so odd to me that you shouldn't flush when the electricity was out. Also funny that indoor plumbing was relatively new to them(a few years). Outhouse was a new experience for me. lol
  23. Kay, hope your water has started working again and that Kodie is okay. Were you walking him when the dog attacked? Miserable way to start the new year!
  24. Kay, sure hope you can find someone to clear the roof. I know your handyman was badly injured recently. There are heating cables to melt roof snow, but probably too late for that now. Will keep my fingers crossed for you.
  25. Marg, just make this surgery your New Years resolution as I'm going to do with wearing these blasted dentures. If I don't, I'll never go to a neurosurgeon about my eyes, which are getting worse and driving me batty. At least I can still see to read. I wanted to share a book with you that I just finished and really enjoyed. It is "The Great Alone" by Kristin Hannah, about a family that moves unprepared to remote Alaska in the 70's. It is way more than just an adventure story. If you get a chance to read it, let me know. Wishing a better and happier year for us all.
