Personal Archiving Question

Maylissa

Recommended Posts

Since it's been a long time since I had to archive anything from my Message Center, I've noticed what appears to be a change there, likely from the last time GH was updated. I used to be able to archive entire pages of PMs all at once (just using the checkboxes), which then created a "folder" that was sent to my email address, and which I could then store on my computer, en masse.

But now, I only see an archiving option button if I individually open each PM separately, i.e., the archive option appears at the bottom of each PM I open. This results in having to archive each PM by itself, rather than as a "bunch," which considerably slows up the whole process.

Am I blind, and missing seeing another way to archive more at once???

Truthfully, Maylissa, I've never used this feature myself, so I don't know anything about how it used to be, much less how it is now. Until I read your post, I didn't even know there was an "Archive Conversation" button ~ I simply never noticed it before. What I've always done is to cut and paste the conversations I want to keep into a Word file, which I then store in my personal files on my PC. I will convey your question to Invision Power Services, the provider of our message board, but it may take a while before I get an answer for you. (I will let you know as soon as I hear back from them.)

Hmmm....seems I've still got this question, having since even forgotten I'd asked it before! Did you ever get any more info on this, Marty? (still hoping for a more efficient and faster way to archive here)

Maylissa, my dear, forgive me ~ I've not been ignoring your question, but have been too preoccupied with other matters to look into your question again. I stumbled over an obstacle on the floor of my office yesterday afternoon, then fell and cracked my head on a bookcase counter top, which put a two-inch gash in my forehead, and I spent the rest of the evening in the ED getting stitched up. (Apparently I'd opened a vein, since I couldn't stop the bleeding, and we had to call an ambulance.) Fortunately the CT scan revealed no evidence of a skull fracture or concussion ~ but the incident left me with a very nice goose egg and lovely scar on my face!)

Anyway, after a quick check of my files, I cannot find any information about this matter of archiving messages, and of course I don't remember if or when I even submitted your question to Invision Power Services. Knowing me, I'm fairly certain that I would have asked at the time, but still I can't find a record of having done so. Please give me some more time to look into it.

OmG, Marty!!!! "Preoccupied" is quite the understatement!!! :o Thank GOODNESS you didn't end up with more than 'just' a "lovely scar" from this mishap!!!! I hope you'll be taking a dose or a few of Arnica montana (homeopathic, 30C) for the bruising and trauma, and herbal Turmeric capsules for the swelling, asap. Yikes, who knew "office work" could be so hazardous!! I DO hope you'll be on the mend quickly and easily, regardless.

So you needn't have rushed to answer me, considering, but I appreciate your dedication nonetheless! No worries, I just happened to notice this again the other day, but I'm not in any rush myself to archive, just wanted to be informed when I get around to it. Take all the time you need -- your health and painlessness is far more important! Let me know how you're doing once you get back to this, whenever!

If we had a bouquet character here, or I knew how to import one properly from elsewhere, you'd be 'smelling' the virtual roses I'd be sending you right now...

Oh, Marty, I am so sorry to hear this. I hope you are beginning to feel better.

Maylissa, I have researched the archive question and have only been able to cut and paste and save to a Word document.

Feel Better, Marty. Chocolate and virtual hugs sent to you.

Hi again, Maylissa. Regarding your question about archiving Personal Messages, I've just now received a response from Invision Power Services (below). Unfortunately, it seems that there is no way to save PMs in bulk. Forgive me for taking so long to provide you with an answer!

Hello ~ One of our members posted the following question, and I don't know how to answer her. Can you tell me if there is a way to do what she is asking? This is the content of her post:

Since it's been a long time since I had to archive anything from my Message Center, I've noticed what appears to be a change there, likely from the last time [this board] was updated.

I'd greatly appreciate your letting me know if what this member requests is possible, and if so, how?

Thank you.

Hello,
Unfortunately the way the member is processing these is correct. There is no way of doing these on mass

Kind Regards,

This isn’t a question, but it is an opinion. I really like the update features of our forum, Marty. It’s clean and easy to navigate. I like that it still has all the bells and whistles as before. I also like the blue color ~ it is calming.

I have looked at several grief discussion boards and they are so full of ads that it is hard to find the messages. I hope all of our members will think of making a donation of whatever they can to keep this forum ad-free.

One thing I’d like to see on the home page is your griefhealingblog link for it is filled with articles that have helped me and I’m sure many others.

Thank you for all you do in offering us a safe place to come as we mourn the loss of a loved one ~ human or pet.

Anne

After all your time consuming and hard work updating the forum I hope you will follow the advice of the photo below. You deserve a rest.

I so appreciate your comments and your enthusiasm for our newly designed site, dear Anne. Thank you. I'm still learning how to work all the features in the upgrade, and I certainly will take into consideration your suggestion about linking to our Grief Healing Blog on our Home page ~ if I can figure out how to make that happen!

Is there anything more adorable than puppies and kittens snuggling together like this?! I love it ~ and I thank you for the thoughtful sentiment
