  1. All very true. Guess I watch too many crime shows where elderly people disappear with foul play involved. Thank you for all your efforts Kay.
  2. Sad that the police were not cooperative. Don't know how much further you want to pursue this, but the Washington State Department Of Social And Health services has an elder abuse hotline where you can file a report online or by phone. Funny that the police dept. Is listed as a resource for help?
  3. Can't imagine what circumstance would keep her from contacting us here or you by phone unless she is completely incapacitated. Pretty sure police will do a wellness check especially when the person is elderly and disabled. She appeared to be financially stable and the person living with her is definitely not which is another red flag. It wouldn't hurt to give it a try.
  4. Seems we are all alive and kicking, although some having to kick harder than others. I know you are a little disappointed about the trip, Kay, but they did everything to drive you away. Nothing Christian about their attitude. So sorry about your daughter, Dee. Hope she gets relief soon. Marg, remember to take care of yourself. As usual, you take on too much. Nothing happening here. Dentist appt. coming up Monday for mold of upper teeth. Really need a haircut. Waiting until I have teeth.
  5. Just checking in and wondering where everyone is. I know Kay had a retreat coming up, not sure when? Hope all is well with each of you.
  6. Thanks for the encouragement and the tip, Kevin. I need to check out the care and cleaning of dentures. I'm assuming you take them out at night. I used a denture adhesive for the partials I had that I rarely wore. Practically needed a crowbar to remove them. Hoping for better luck with the new ones.
  7. Thanks Kay. Knock on wood, it stopped hurting after one day. The others were painful for 10 days. Surprising as it was so hard to get the last one out. That pretty well describes my diet until it's healed, although I managed a baked potato this morning carefully.
  8. Last 3 teeth pulled. It was awful, but at least I'm done with the torture. Go back in 2 weeks for upper mold. Will be nice to look halfway human again. lol
  9. Kevin, glad to hear the good news about the fires and your granddaughter. Sorry about the puppy. You might try some cooked rice and cooked chicken. Worked for my dog.
  10. Dodged a bullet on getting my remaining teeth pulled today. Instead, the dentist decided the bottom denture didn't fit right so time was spent making another mold. When he made the first one, I still had some bottom teeth so it's no wonder the fit was wrong. Not really sure why he did that, but obviously it didn't work. Another appt. next Monday. Not sure if teeth will be pulled then or not.
  11. So sorry, Kay. I wonder if Iris could give you a hand for a bit. You do a lot for her.
  12. So sorry, Kay. I remember eons ago backing into a Jaguar at Neiman Marcus where I'd won a gift certificate. Of all cars to run into! I simply didn't see him backing up at the same time. Fortunately no damage and he didn't even want my insurance info.
  13. Don't know how hot it was here today, but it's 111 at 6pm. Bad time for my AC to quit which it did late Sunday night. Tried to get an online appt. for repair early Monday morning with my expensive Sears home maintainence plan. Eleven days away. NOT acceptable in this heat. Second time Sears has failed me on AC. Called my local repair who came out that morning and fixed it for $600, which I will try and get reimbursed. If not, I'm seriously considering cancelling the contract I've had for 40 years. This old AC is on it's last legs, parts barely available. New one is $12000. No way can I afford that. Sure wouldn't want all of your rain, Marty but would appreciate a little. Driest year here ever. Stay safe! Marg, I remember the crop payment stuff with my west Texas uncle back in the 50's or 60's. Didn't make sense. Guess there's a method to the madness. Isn't there always with the government?
  14. Kevin, so sorry to hear this, but glad she was found safe. What goes on in the heads of teens is a mystery. They don't grasp the evils that lurk out there. In their minds they are invincible. Hope she will communicate with you.
  15. Kay, hope all is well with you. I know you were coming home from your son's on Thursday, but haven't seen an update. Take care.
  16. Thanks Marg. Round 2 went a lot better. He gave me 3 times as much Novocaine. Still had a tough time getting the broken one out, but I don't feel as beat up. Next appt. In 4 weeks for the last 3 front top teeth, the one I'm scared of most. They are in there solid as a rock. Maybe I should look for a bar fight instead. lol
  17. There have been 59 heat related deaths in the last month here. Some idiots still think you can hike our local nature areas in the extreme heat. NO! "Cooling Stations" have been set up for homeless, etc. in the hotter portions of the state and we are under State Of Emergency by governer. Heat goes on forever here.
  18. Round 2 of teeth extractions coming up Monday. Can hardly wait! It took 10 days for the first one to stop hurting. When all this is done, I'll probably not want to look at soup or pudding for a long time. lol Hope that fire stays put or is contained soon. Stay safe. Have you had a chance to talk to Gwen again? Really worried.....
  19. I've had all but 5 teeth pulled now including 2 impacted wisdom teeth all done by my old dentist except 1 tooth and the wisdom teeth done by oral surgeons for which I was asleep. None of them hurt as bad as this one, although the wisdom teeth recovery was tough. I know he didn't give enough novocaine because it wore off quickly which is unusual for me. Am going to ask for more next time. Sure miss my old dentist! Still taking the antibiotics. Hope all is well with the BF and hope your evacuation doesn't happen. What a pain! Take care
  20. I had 2 teeth pulled on Monday and it was the worst ever. I thought those would be the easiest ones, but one was very infected and he almost had to jackhammer it out. Could barely stand up when he finished. Still swollen and painful. Will sure ask for more novocaine next time. Can hardly wait for round 2 in 3 weeks. Kay, what a bad time to be laid up! Hope the wind shifts and you find your daughter soon.
  21. Gwen, thinking of you and hoping you still read posts even if not able to respond right now. I miss our late night conversations. We were the only ones crazy enough to be up in the middle of the night. Luv ya!
  22. Kay, my eye problem has become a fiasco. My doctor did bloodwork end of June, said he would do the Myasthenia Gravis test. HE DIDN'T! After waiting 2 weeks, I was told a neurologist would have to do it. In limbo again while they find one closer to my house. My bigger concern right now is these lousy teeth. Getting the first 2 pulled on Monday. What fun!
  23. Oh Marg, my heart goes out to you for all you are carrying! You are trying to juggle way too many balls at once. We always want to be all things to all people that we love, but sometimes it's just not possible. Those we love can't understand that because we've always been there for them before. I always remember bringing my grandson, David home from the hospital 28 years ago and being the one who fed him throughout the nights as his mother was useless. My son did the best he could but at 16, he was a fish out of water. I was exhausted with a newborn and a job at 50 and asked him alternate feedings with me. He replied "But you're used to it". I had always taken care of everyone, but it was not my forever ambition. It just worked out that way. I truly understand your thinking that old friends wouldn't recognize the person you have become. Maybe you wouldn't recognize them either.
  24. Marg, "detailing" is just a thorough cleaning of the vehicle usually including shampooing seats and carpets and a super wax job. Probably costs at least $100 at a car wash. Might get rid of the cigarette odor. No humidity here, but 115 degrees. Fortunately, I don't have to go out in it. Yes, sure wish Gwen could check in.
