  1. I'm sure that people without dogs think we're nuts for spending so much and maybe we are, but our dogs are family. When I worked for the phone company, I had vision insurance. Lost that at retirement. Medical eye problems are insurance covered, just not glasses. Premiums just continue to rise. Mine are about $400 a month in addition to Medicare.
  2. Thanks Gwen and Kay for your concern. What a mess you have just trying to get decent cell service! My son has been a Verizon customer for years and has no problems. I choke when I hear what a fancy phone costs. Sure glad I don't need one. So far, this has been my year for unexpected medical expenses. I've spent over $3000 so far on Marley. That will be an ongoing thing, but only $50 a month for pills after one more blood test hopefully. Now this thing with my eyes. Although insurance covers most of the stuff, there are certain tests that aren't covered as well as the glasses. I know the prism test lenses aren't. I learned a long time ago never to ask "What next?".
  3. I saw my ophthalmologist today and he is very concerned about my double vision(a lot more so than he was a year ago). He's not sure of the cause and wants to run more tests as well as look at the CT that I had done. Depending on the cause, it's possible this can be corrected with prism glasses. There are press on prisms for glasses to see which is the correct one to prescribe before the actual grinding of the lenses is done. He said it's very difficult to get them right. So another appt. with him next Monday to test the prisms.
  4. That's good to know, Gwen. Do the patches seem to ease the pain? The only pain patch I'm familiar with is Fentanyl which along with a Morphine and Dilaudid pump was used for my daughter in her last weeks. She was either asleep or out of her head then which, I suppose was a blessing. Not a time that I like to remember. FYI, your last post cut off in the middle.
  5. I'm not sure this pain clinic is doing you any favors by trading one opiate for another, and a stronger one at that. Why you you be experiencing withdrawal if the patches are stronger? Something is not right and I know you feel helpless with it all. Just worried about you fighting all this alone. I watched a documentary called "The Elephant In The Living Room" about people who keep exotic animals in their homes or on their property. It was good, but so sad. I had always assumed this was illegal, but apparently isn't in some states. Of course there are pros and cons to this. Most of the animals are treated like family. Just don't think I'd want a full grown cougar roaming around in my backyard. For some reason, this movie is stuck in my brain. Guess it's because I love and respect animals.
  6. Kay, I don't know if you have anyone in your area, but here the local news stations have consumer advocates that help people deal with businesses like this. You might check into it.
  7. Gwen, so worried about what this woman is doing to you. Why were police called? Don't let her bs you. She was "slipping" long before she met you. There just has to be someone better out there to meet your needs.
  8. Dang Marg!! Sooo glad you didn't break anything, but I'm sure you are stiff and sore. I suppose my worst fall so far(knock on wood) was the nose dive I took in the dark hallway over the black dog. Simply didn't see her and she's a huge dog. Ended up with a skinned elbow and big bruise on my hip. The advantage is that there is always someone here to pick me up. I never go anywhere alone and don't do curbs well(no depth perception). You know you're old when your son has to help you on and off the sidewalk. A far cry from the girl who used to leap onto her horse and gallup away....
  9. Marg, don't feel bad. I was afraid too, but it turned out to be no big deal, especially the second one because you know what to expect. Distance vision is clearer and colors brighter. It just didn't correct the double vision.
  10. Sitting on 98 right now. Just a practice run. Dropping back down into 80's next several days.
  11. Thanks for your input, Kay. I've never had a cholesterol problem. No matter how fast you run, old age seems to catch up with a person. I admire your willpower with your diet. My family and I would never do it, plus I really don't like to cook. I'm just glad I don't have a brain tumor.
  12. Hello to Joyce, Ana, and Dee! With the exception of our Ana, I guess the rest of us are just coping with physical ailments provided by our "golden" years. Some good news for me. I saw the doctor about CT results. No abnormalities found and nothing that would contribute to my double vision. There is slight hardening of the arteries in the brain which are age appropriate. Doctor has prescribed cholesterol med as a stroke deterrent. All in all, I'm in pretty good shape for an old broad! I see the ophthalmologist in 2 weeks to get his take on things. He couldn't figure it out last year.
  13. Still here, Kay. It seems lately that it is just you, me, Gwen, and Marg posting. Hope this means our friends are doing well. Gwen, sure hope the patch makes your pain non existent or at least tolerable. Could it be Dee's liver problem making her sick? What about her treatments? We finally had to turn on the AC. Going into the 90's starting Sunday.
  14. Marg, just glad to hear that you and yours are safe, even if you maybe are a bit soggy. I always worry when I hear about these wind monsters in your area of the country. Hunker down!
  15. Gwen, glad the fall didn't have any adverse effects. I had the CT a week ago. It was of my head. Doctor is looking for the cause of my double vision. I can only assume something bad was found as he wants to "discuss" the results. They have always given me other test results over the phone.
  16. My doctor's office called and he wants to see me asap about my CT. Not what I was expecting. Unfortunately, asap isn't until next Monday(first available appointment). Gives me a whole week to worry which doesn't change a thing.
  17. Gwen, have you thought about searching online for support groups for people with spinal problems? Just a thought....you mind find some suggestions from other patients.
  18. I have no clue about recording. Can't think of anything I need to record anyway. Most things I might miss can be watched later through "On Demand" feature. Funny memory about TV. When I was 6 or 7, my aunt & uncle were among the few who had TV(fairly new gadget) in our tiny Texas town. I glued myself to it while my sweet aunt brought me food and drink all day. Apparently I was the only one who could stop the picture from rolling. Those TVs did that a lot. Hope your new counselor turns out to be someone you click with.
  19. I can't stand b/w. Too spoiled. I was raised on Westerns and "Perry Mason". Another actor that I loved was Ben Johnson, a true cowboy.
  20. What a mess, Gwen! I wonder if peace is even possible. She seems to want to control everything. Sorry this friendship is not what you expected.
  21. So much of Dee's thinking is skewed. She would drive me nuts. Our temps are probably still in the 70's which is a good thing. Last year in March, I was using the AC. Still watching "Lost". 121 episodes. What a crazy show, but it keeps you guessing. Also watching " Dr. Quinn" again. Missed some episodes last time. Plan to watch "The Virginian". Huge crush on James Drury when I was younger. Waiting on CT scan results. Probably next week.
  22. Good one Marg! I learned a long time ago that in the fight against dust, dust is winning.
  23. I would love to live where Kay is, but I could not pick up a snow shovel, much less use it. My place is very old and run down. When Ron was here, everything was clean and neat despite it's age. Dust and dog hair live here permanently overlooking knee high weeds in the back yard. I could keep up with all of it until about 70, but no more and others who live here are not inclined to do so. If I had friends, I would be too embarrassed to invite them over. Overall, our weather is great without all the hardships so may of you have, just extremely hot in the summer. Don't love my life here, but at least I'm above the ground, not in it. Going for my CT scan tomorrow. I'm sure there will be nothing there. Stubborn won't show on a scan. lol I'm sure it's my eyes causing the vision problem. I've discovered if I hold my head up normally, my vision is doubled. If I tilt it forward a bit, vision is okay. How crazy is that?
  24. Gwen, Dee needs to understand that you are not her clone and that Lincoln freed the slaves. You are your own person with your own interests and opinions. Don't let her push you around or degrade you.
  25. I have no idea why but I get emails from "Home Again" which posts about lost pets. Not that I mind but I'm no help in spotting one, rarely leaving the house and unable to see more than 10 feet. I stay out of religion and politics. Life is complicated enough already.
