  1. thank you. each loss is different from the other, but i find this one to be especially painful. the 'what ifs' are piling up and bringing me down.
  2. I rehabilitate wildlife rabbits. I had one that could not be released due to injuries and slow development. Then i got a call from another rehabiltator who had a bunny that needed more time to heal as well - she had been kept by a person for 4 weeks so was not afraid of humans. I took that one in and placed with my existing bunny in a ten by ten outdoor run with hutch. That was just one day and all was perfect. Last night i went out to give them hay, took a flashlight, I saw the one bunny but not the new one, opened the cage door and went through and accidentally stepped on the new bunny and crushed her skull. She was not afraid of my presence and I didn't think about that, and didn't identify her location with light before stepping through the gate and she was just exactly underfoot. I am DEVASTAED. I've lost bunnies to sickness and injury but never in such a manner that directly was caused by me. Although I rehab and release about 45 bunnies a season by myself, this one is by far MY worst mistake. My original bunny is now alone. The anguish of my mistake is almost unbearable as I know it was preventable. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.
