I should know when to leave well enough alone. I went to the dermatologist on Tuesday for my overdue yearly checkup. I had him freeze off a couple of mole type things. I've had several done before with no problem. The one on the back of my shoulder isn't bothering me at all. The one on my stomach that's been there forever is another matter. Nobody told me that area would blister, so I have a quarter sized blister around the offending mole. Can't put anything on it or try to make it go away and it hurts like a son of a gun. These things fall off in about six weeks. Sure hope the blister goes away before that. Not laughing now, but the last thing I said to the doctor when he offered to remove it was "Go ahead. I might as well hurt on both sides". Open mouth....Insert foot.

I think Gwen said it all when she said she's not #1 to someone else anymore, nor is anyone to her...that is one of the biggest things we struggle with, that and isolation.  When I was down sick for tw

Kevin, I'm sorry for the loss of your friend.  We have some Buddys in our family too.  I've lost too many friends to count the last couple of years, guess it's a sign I'm again, I have a lot of older

I feel the same. These have been the worst years of my life and nothing, really nothing, can ammend that. It gets softer, but this softness cannot erase or cancel what these years have been to me.

Karen,

I've had them take 2 weeks, I've had them take five, hopefully it'll be earlier rather than later.  The earlier time is the most painful, I'm sorry you're hurting.  I had a whole bunch removed on my back a few months ago, it hurt like the dickens to drive, esp. since one was under the seatbelt.  You could put a bandaid on it if it helps.

You guys every feel cosmically picked on?  I sure do.  Things we had done in the past or others have done go smoothly.  That 1% chance of it being a problem I keep falling into.  I keep asking....what are the odds?  This really is nothing compared to having moles removed for your health, tho I have enough health crap going on I’m not responding to 'normally' I’m told, but of all the gazillion packages Amazon ships, mine gets lost.  My insurance is changing so I have to switch plans and hope my established docs are on there.  One doc they said I could see then said no they didn’t has cost me $900 out of pocket. That car in front of me takes the last handicap parking space so I get to hobble from far away.  Mine is the only trash not picked up on my block.  The list goes on and on.  And that’s not counting all the stuff I schedule that gets delayed or cancelled and now charities calling for Steve 5 years later.

I’m just trying to get thru the days and this kinda crap happens. One last gripe......calling places with menus to go Thru to get to a person that take phenomenal investment and then to be dropped waiting on hold..........ARG!

Gwenivere,

Just sit down and take a big deep breath.  Maybe find a time every day that even if it's just 10 minutes  that you just sit down, close your eyes and take some deep breaths. Maybe have a cup of tea and a cookie.  I don't know if you are a religious person but maybe say a little prayer for God's help at the same time if you are.

Do you have friends that can support you. I have found that is my best thing.  Have they given you a website about your new insurance so you can see if your Dr's are on it or if you know the name of the insurance call your Dr's office to see if they accept it.  That would help take one thing off your plate.  If they don't try to find someone that may have the new ins. already and see whom they see.  As far as the Dr. you saw that wasn't covered; did you get the name of the person who told you that you could see them. If you did I'd try to fight the ins.  A hint from this point on when you speak with ins. always put down the time, the date, the person you are speaking with.  As a nurse who deals with this a lot it can save you a lot of time and aggravation down the road. Just take baby steps not giant ones and it will not seem so overwhelming.

Hope something in this mess I wrote helps you.  I don't get on here as often any more and have only seen a few things about you so don't know your whole story

Gwen,

My health problems are definitely nothing compared to yours and others here. I was just feeling a bit wimpy when I wrote that. It's actually the first time in my long life that I've had a bad enough burn to blister.

I got a notice from Humana(which covers my prescriptions) that my premium for next year is more than doubling. I almost wonder what my 3 medications would cost without insurance. The new premium is 6 times my current cost of meds.

As for cosmically picked on, I've always felt like the character in Lil Abner is sharing his black cloud with me. But then maybe it's all just part of living in the human race. Who knows?

You know what annoys the heck out of me?  I’ve turned into Eeyore.  I was the opposite.  I hate it.

MLG, I try and keep notes on dates and name with any.insurance or doctor call.  Doesn’t seem to matter to them.  They’ve said they reviewed the tapes and have found none saying I could see this uncovered doc.  I know I called twice and was told yes.  Insurance can’t be addressed until open enrollment.   I’m not a sick back person.  I don’t pray and I have no support people except here and counselors I pay that can’t help me in the actual battles.  I know you mean well, but you are correct, you don’t the evolution of my story which has unfolded here over the years.  Thank you for caring tho.  Very kind of you.

Karen, it’s not a matter of comparison.  Each of us has problems just as valid as anyone’s else’s.  My insurance could triple if I don’t meet the ACA requirements which I hope I do as my income has not changed.  Can’t find out anything  til Tuesday about rates, etc.  My gut says no matter what, it’s going to cost more and cover less.  I can only suggest a healthcare finder as that is what found me this plan I am losing and has access to everything.  If I were to try and research it, I’d lose my mind.  I know the price of my meds would eat my income drastically.  It’s a sh**ty system we have here in the US.  How’s your blister doing?

Gwen, I love Eeyore.  I grew up with  Lil' Abner.  Mama would give the  cartoons names to all my friends.  Of course, as I mentioned, I was Moonbeam McSwine.  I had flies circling around me because I hated cleaning my room.  Billy, with his crew-cut was Little Abner's cute brother Tiny Yocum.  One boyfriend became Andy Gump. I looked him up and he just was all mustache.   This was because he had thick eyebrows that almost looked like one.  He didn't talk much, he was cute as he could be.

Strange, I looked around and Mama is gone.  She was more  real than life though.  And Billy has just gone fishing.

Feel better my sweet friend.

Do you like to be called Gwen or Gwenivere?  Our hospital used to have someone who would help you pick the best insurance to help you with your diagnosis and your meds, do you have anything like that?  Our Senior Citizens Center helps also.  As for medication help a lot of the pharmacies will help you with which one will give you the best prices.  As a nurse who works with insurance almost every day that I work it can become very, very frustrating.. I can only imagine when it is influencing your life how frustrating it can be.   I wish I was near you (which I don't know where that is ) so that maybe I could help you with things.  I will hold you in my prayers.

I am still fighting a claim from 1 1/2 years ago, it's not my screw up but it's me getting left holding the bag.  The ins. has the doctor listed  as a mental health specialist, which he is not, he's an MD, which they list him as in their letter of denial to me.  I tried to appeal it but they said I can't, that it's pending.  But I have a letter of denial from them!  I think they're all nuts and nothing makes any sense!  How can it pend for 1 1/2 years, anyway?  It's all crazy.  BTW the doctor is no longer with my doctor's office, but it was the ins. co. that told me I could see him.  Nuts, that's how I see it all.

Kay,

What a pain to have to deal with ins stuff, especially a mess from a few years ago.  I find I don't have much patience for things like that anymore.

I wonder if the Dept of Insurance in your state could help.  Seems like they're not making it easy to get it straightened out.

I got the official denial today from my insurance on the endocrinologist.  Stil hve to call as they are so unclear on where referrals were supposed to go.  This shouldn’t be my job.  All it does is confuse me and cause extreme stress.  Not good for someone with an anxiety disorder and severe depression trying to take meds that already have them feeling like they are losing their minds.  I used to juggle this stuff like a pro.  Now I dread dialing the phone.

Me too Kay!  That is the only time I get anything on paper from them.  And when I’ve called them it’s because of a problem.  I wish insurance companies had to all adhere to the same policies.  It would make it less confusing.  I like that one of the presidential candidates is pushing for Medicare for all.  I know, not the place for politics, but the point being everyone would know and get the same care.  None of this network, referral crap.  And add in supplements if you want.

Guess I don’t need to come here anymore.

Actually politics are part of how we have to live and when we die.  Politics are involved when we pay the succession fee.  Arkansas did not make us pay it.  Louisiana did.  Politics run the medical bills you get and politics run your car.  We try to escape things like religion and politics, but faith in God is what keeps most of going and politics are what we have to pay when we do get going.  Politics are never mentioned, but they are the elephant in any room, in any forum.  And yes, politics stink.  I hate them, but politics are involved when you die, when you live, when you walk out the door.  What little is mentioned here is such a relief and unfortunately, to keep living we have to go to the doctor, we have to have insurance and somehow, without politics, our burial, our medical, our life story has them involved.  I do not think anyone mentioned conservative, left wing, right wing, liberal, democrat, republican, any political label..  But unfortunately, we the living have to have insurance, and everything we have to have to live and die puts their mark on it.  I think this forum does good things, and all the "labels" I mentioned I have no idea what they  mean.  I think in my going on four  years, yours is the only one that wants to leave because politics were mentioned.  We put a disclaimer when we mention religion.  I'm so sorry about the insurance that is turned down, the frustration of dealing with all of this crap that is governed by politics.  Great forum, politics is not made an issue, never mentioned, nothing said untoward that I have read, frustrations vented, an issue we all face, but leaving because you saw it once, I'm shocked.  No one fusses if religion is mentioned, even though we know it is a subject to stay away from, but to some of us it is sacred.  But really, I don't think anyone has left because we mention it.  Have never been fussed at either.  And there are those that do not believe.  " but in this world nothing can be said to be certain, except death and taxes.”  Death - we grieve.  Taxes -- we are not to mention.

That’s right, this isn’t the place to interject politics. Guess I don’t need to come here anymore.

Are you serious?  I hope not, we want you here...

We aren't supposed to get into politics here for this reason.

But back to subject at hand, I have been through hell and back with Healthnet, and I can really relate to what you're going through, Gwen.  I hope it gets straightened out, you have enough going on without having that to deal with!

Thanks Kay.  Tried calling for info but you can’t get any info until the enrollment period.  I did find out I call the health exchange first, not the insurance company.  I know it’s probably nit as complicated as it feels, but then again....maybe it is.  🙂

Ooooo....not for me.  This can definitely be handled on the phone.  I prefer that than going to downtown Seattle and parking.  I just want to see if my subsidies from the Obamacare  are still in effect to bring the premium down.  Then it’s simply sign me up for the replacement plan!

I live in a town of about 12,000, probably less.  Parish seat.  I cannot imagine going to an office in "downtown" Seattle, Washington.  My heart is with you Gwen, as always.

Most places have an actual room or building you can go to to discuss things if you need face to face rather than phone.

Not here!

I live in a town of 11,000 and we have someone here part time. Otherwise it takes about 25 minutes.  I'm sure you will figure it all out. I'm lucky to still be covered by my husband's insurance and hope it continues.  I'm always waiting for them to drop the shoe.  Have a good day ladies.
