If you are 18 years or older and have experienced a loss no more than 2 years ago, you are invited to take part in a study conducted via The University of Memphis that explores the role writing plays in the process of adapting to bereavement. This study examines alternative forms of writing in order to establish the efficacy of writing exercises in providing support for those grieving significant death-related losses. By conducting this study, we hope to contribute to the design of more effective services for the bereft.

Should you choose to take part in this study, you will be asked to participate on four occasions. The first two occasions will require approximately 30-90 minutes and the remaining two occasions will require approximately 15-30 minutes. You will begin by completing surveys that inquire as to the nature of your loss (e.g., cause of death), the intensity of your grief experience, whether and how much sense you have made of the grief experience, and your relationships with others. After completing this survey, you will be asked to complete a writing tasks on two occasions one week apart. After you have completed the second writing task, you will then be contacted for a one-month and a three-month follow-up assessing your loss experience.
