Total heartbreak losing our kitten

This is so so hard. We lost our baby two days ago. My husband and I went out of town for one night. My in laws stayed at the house with our kids and our animals. Our sweet little kitten Daisy was 4 1/2 months old. Our other cat took her life. I don’t understand why, they got along fine. They weren’t best friends but they didn’t mind each other. My son called at 11:30 pm, he had found her. We are all traumatized. Her life was cut way to short, she was supposed to grow old with us. I am having such a hard time letting her go. Every time I walk in a room I see the last place she was there and feel like I can’t breath. She was such an explorer, wasn’t afraid of anything. Even the first day we got her she was so spunky. How does this get any easier. All the places she hung out I keep expecting her to be there, It’s empty.  How do I move past the resentment for our other cat for taking her life. I feel such guilt, if only I had been there I could have protected her. I can’t eat, I can’t sleep. Thoughts of her consume me. When does this get any easier? It was so sudden and tragic this is all so hard for all of us. My children included.

I am so sorry, this has to be one of the worst things to have to deal with, not only the loss of little Daisy, but knowing your other cat did it.  You don't know for sure what exactly happened?  Did anyone witness it?

I did some reading and found that sometimes an adult cat will view a kitten as prey.  I would not adopt another as long as this one is alive.  Apparently this is common and nothing to hold against it as they are doing what comes natural to them.  I'm very sorry, I never knew this until I researched it.  :(
