Trin
Am struggling a lot. I have never had an issue doing what I had to for my pets but I can't resolve my feelings that I did not give my cat the chance of surgery. He was 16 and suffered a rectal prolapse. I choose to put him to sleep as vet said it would likely happen again however when reading about it I immediately regretted my decision and now I can't stop crying and feeling sick that I made the wrong decision.
kayc
Oh Hon, my heart goes out to you, that could have been written by any one of us missing our pets...it's not that you did something wrong but that we all go through these "what ifs" after they die because what happened is too much for us to handle, we're desperately searching for a different possible outcome! The one that happened is too great. 16 is old for a cat. You actually spared him going through this again and suffering more...what happens now is it transfers his suffering to YOU as it's extremely hard to bear their loss. I feel the same and it's been 2 1/2 years since my Arlie (soulmate in a dog) died and 4 1/2 months later I lost 25 year old Kitty. I'd honestly thought she'd live forever! I have had 15 cats and 10 dogs in my life, none lived as long as her, she had the uncanny ability to heal herself, was in great health until the end...but in the end her kidneys and liver shut down. None of us live forever but it seems unfair our animals get a short life compared to us. No time seems a good time. I read on here where people's one year old cats die of a malady, that seems truly unfair! It's the hardest thing in the world to get used to their being gone. My hope is in being with them again and knowing they are at peace and healthy where they are. Like my husband, gone 16 1/2 years now. I am so sorry you are going through this loss. I hope these are of some help to you: http://www.griefhealing.com/comfort-grieving-animal-lovers.htmA Dangerous Villain: Guilthttp://www.pet-loss.net/guilt.shtmlhttp://www.griefhealing.com/article-loss-and-the-burden-of-guilt.htmhttps://www.griefhealingblog.com/2019/08/pet-loss-when-guilt-overshadows-grief.htmlhttps://www.griefhealingblog.com/2017/07/pet-loss-when-guilt-goes-unresolved.html I hope this short video brings you some comfort and peace.
