Maylissa
I'm not sure if you saw my suggestion w/i one of my recent posts or not, Marty, but I'd suggested it might be a good addition at the bottom of the Home Page to add "Today's (death) Anniversaries" for members (who would have to be able to add these to their Profile page first). This would be like the "Today's Birthdays" that are already there. I just thought this might be welcome, since some of us and our passed loved ones don't get remembered each year, when we need that so much on those special days. People could list any or all of their loved ones' anniversary dates, as preferred. I had sent a little birthday note to some members in the past when I'd notice their name come up under the birthday notices, and some appreciated getting a message, whether they'd been 'active' on GH then or not. What do you, or other members, think? And is this even possible to add?
MartyT
Maylissa, dear ~ Yes, I did see your suggestion about death dates. The birthday feature is part of this particular server's options, and (to the extent that I understand all I supposedly "know" about this computer stuff) it appears automatically once a new member gives his or her "profile" information during the registration process. If there is a way to add what you're suggesting, I don't know how to do it, and I will need some time to find someone who can answer your question ~ so please bear with me. In the meantime, our site does have a "Calendar" feature (see the links at the very top of the page, next to Help, Search, and Members), and I'm wondering if we might use our calendar for the purpose you're suggesting. First, I need to know if you're willing to "play" with the Calendar features to see if you can figure out how to use them. I know what happens when I click on the Calendar link, but I don't know if those Calendar features are accessible only to me (as an administrator of the site) or to everyone. Are you willing to try that? If so, give it a try, and let me know what you think . . .
Maylissa
Hi Marty,Okay, I tried to "Add a recurring event" (and even a "ranged" and "single" event) but the message always returned that I'm "not allowed to use this feature", so I guess it's only for admin. I see it lists anyone's birthday (those who've filled out their date), and other events set by you, but a member can't change anything. I'd never even really noticed this feature before. Huh! Too bad, though - that likely would have done the trick and allowed us to see 'events' come up under that section on the Home Page. Thanks for your creative idea, though!
