I am so sorry, we just lost our baby last night.  I can’t stop crying and thinking about what if.  Does the guilt ever fade?

I can’t stop crying.  Our 4 month old kitten died last night.  I accidentally killed him in the dryer.  I swore that I had checked to make sure he wasn’t there since I had just taken him back to my room.   After a bit I am calling him and he wasn’t coming.  I started checking all the rooms and closets and then I ran for the laundry room.  I tried to give him cpr but it was too late.  I can’t sleep or stop crying.  I feel so guilty, he was such an good kitty.  His name was Otis, but we called him Odie.  I feel so bad, it’s like a bad dream and I want to wake up.  I don’t know what to do besides cry and be mad at myself.  The what if’s are killing me.
