Research Study: Loss Of A Spouse

Recommended Posts

The following comes to us from Jessica Lubitz, a psychology student at Lehigh University:

Have you or someone you know recently experienced the loss of a spouse?

Researchers at Lehigh University are currently looking for participants for a research study about the experiences of recent widows and widowers.

The loss of a spouse can be one of the most stressful and traumatic events in a person's life. However, people react to this event in many different ways, and researchers are currently trying to understand why. The goal of this study is to examine how bereaved individuals experience change over time and how their family and friends contribute to these experiences.

Participation in this study would involve intermittently completing a series of questionnaires over a one-month period. The participant will answer questions about themselves, their relationship with their late spouse, and how they are coping with the loss. We will also ask about day-to-day activities and interactions with family and friends. Participants will also be asked to identify a friend or family member who would be willing to complete a smaller set of questionnaires. All contributors will be compensated for their involvement.

Eligible participants must have experienced the loss of a spouse within the past 12 months.

To learn more about this study or to volunteer, please call (610) 758-4967 or email LehighCopingLab@gmail.com.

This study is being conducted by Dr. Christopher Burke and Jessica Lubitz of the Lehigh University Department of Psychology.
