MartyT
Dear Ones, for those of you who subscribe to Netflix, I stumbled upon a series that is so touching, so real, so poignant AND funny, and so worth watching! If you can get past the rough language (which seems to be everywhere nowadays anyway) and the raunchy style of British humor, the two seasons of this show are, in a word, wonderful. The way the series portrays the pain and sorrow of grief in the wake of significant loss is moving and spot-on, and every member of the cast is perfect in their roles. Written and directed by comedian Ricky Gervais, After Life is about a man struggling to come to terms with his wife's death. As a writer for a local newspaper in a small town populated by various odd-ball characters eager to see their stories in print, this grieving widower adopts a gruff new persona in an effort to push away those trying to help.
