mfh
I understand. My dad was also an alcoholic who quit drinking when I was in my 30s. Take care of yourself. Protect your self and be kind to your dad but you are first. I am glad you have a therapist. I urge you to schedule some appointments even if by phone. Just so you have someone there also. mfh
Talk to your therapist about meds also. They may or may not be appropriate. I do not know you but just get a couple of opinions first.

mfh
Some articles from Marty's blog on medications and grief. Just educate yourself a bit before you decide. You know yourself and your therapist knows you so at least look at the whole picture, consider who you are and your own history....and then decide what to do. There is no right nor wrong....just educate yourself. http://www.griefhealingblog.com/2009/11/interview-are-we-medicating-normal.html http://www.opentohope.com/when-and-how-to-use-medicine-for-grief/ http://www.griefhealingblog.com/2012/02/common-myths-and-misconceptions-about.html http://www.griefhealingblog.com/2013/08/coping-with-sorrow-in-grief.html
kayc
I'm sorry, I know what that's like, my dad was an alcoholic too. He wasn't "present" for me. I knew he loved me, but he didn't say it and always let me down...that's what alcoholics do. It must be all the harder for you to have your mom gone. Doris Ann
Just wanted to let y'all know I had a good day on Saturday. My grandson's 3rd birthday party and I wore a mask to his super hero party. I'm glad I went. For a moment everything was ok with the world spinning in my head. Doris Ann
Thank you. My goal is too have more moments like that. I just want to be happy and free!!! I had promised my therapist that I would try hard to go and I did. I almost didn't but I'm glad I did. The mask helped me too.
