  1. Thank you all for your continued thoughts for Shan and our family. She is responding to antibiotics for the pneumonia, however they still have her on the ventilator to ease her breathing. There is evidence now showing in her bloodwork that her body is beginning to accept her brother's stem cells! This is so good. There is a long way to go and she is not out of the woods by any means, but we will take anything positive. She is still sleeping most of the time. She is still in a good deal of pain but its still being medically managed. Her brother and family had to fly back home to CA today, but Mark will be returning within the week. Shan is sleeping so much that we chose not to tell her he left because any agitation could be a set back. Will keep updating. Promise you. Mary
  2. Hi friends, Shan is in critical condition. She has no immune system to fight this pneumonia. She's on heavy iv antibiotics. She is on a ventilator to help ease the difficulty breathing. She is sleeping all day and night. My son is the healthiest of all of us right now. So he was in her isolation room today in a "suit" and mask to talk to her even though she didn't wake. He read to her things from myself, my husband, her brother and SIL. And your posts as well. Hoping she heard. I fear she is giving up because Leo is gone. I miss my brother. But I'm praying hard that he is in her dreams to let her know not to give up. Mary
  3. Anne, Ziggy took on that name because he was an avid fan of the Ziggy cartoon character. And he and Leo, as twin brothers, joked about being so bald at a very early age and they were both very short as well. Like the cartoon character. I can relate to missing out on that sibling relationship as older adults. Ziggy was 43 when he died. And Leo, 52. My big brothers. It is just myself and our "baby" sister now. I'm very sorry you have lost your siblings as well. On my way out the door. I hope you have a peaceful day.
  4. My photo is Leo, Shan, and myself at their wedding.
  5. Thank you all. I called the hospital a bit ago and Shan woke several times during the night in a lot of pain. They raised her morphine. She's sleeping this morning. Her fever is lower. A good sign. I have a lot to do today. Trying to keep busy.
  6. Hello. I thought I should really register for myself. I will still update on Shan. My heart is very heavy as today is two months since we lost my brother, Leo. However, I have to remain strong for Shan. That is my priority. I can't ignore though that my big brothers are gone. Solace is that they are once again together.
