  1. It seems it would be difficult to "know" much of anything about Dee's actions. She is so unpredictable. I'm sure there are live in caregivers out there that could help you without all this drama. Of course you'd have to pay for them, but at least it wouldn't be with your sanity and self respect. Something to think about... Thanks girls for the Mother's Day love. Just another day here, although I got a "Happy Mother's Day" wish from my son when he got home from work Sunday morning. I hope you had a nice time with Iris at the church function, Kay. You do so much for her.
  2. Kevin, thinking of you and hoping this fire is under control before it gets to you. Stay safe!
  3. I'm good, Kay. Not surprised, but never heard anything last week from my PCP about Myasthenia Gravis test, so will call them next week. Nice to know how concerned they are. lol My grandson is having a lot of dental problems. His teeth are breaking off so he went to the dentist recommended by our retired one. Both my son and grandson said that he is a condescending prick. He wouldn't fix the teeth and told him he needs to have all his teeth pulled and get dentures. David is only 28 and his teeth are not that bad. Needless to say, he didn't go back. Robert signed David up for dental insurance and found a dentist who is really nice. Said right now that David needs 2 crowns. Unfortunately the insurance doesn't kick in for 9 months for that procedure, so we're footing the bill for that($1600), but at least he'll still have his teeth. So surprised my dentist of 40 years would choose someone like the other guy for his patients(maybe proximity to his office). Will always be a mystery why he retired so suddenly. Sorry you got screwed by your phone provider, Kay. Seems like it's always something. Gwen, don't mess around with anything near your eyes. You may have to bite the bullet and see the doctor. I'm not interested in King Charles or any of the drama surrounding the "royals". I was sad and surprised to hear about Kevin Costner's wife filing for divorce. Guess he was too.
  4. Ten years ago today, Ron left this world for another. I still look for him everywhere. Rest well my Cherokee Irishman.
  5. Oh Marg, how awful! I hope he is recovering with no complications. Violence is rampant and there is no way to stop it. There is at least one(usually more) killing each day here. People have gone crazy. Confiscating weapons won't remove them from the criminals. There is no easy answer.
  6. Kay, I did read up on the symptoms of this at the Mayo website. The only one I have is the double vision, plus this usually hits women under 40. It's pretty unlikely that I have it. I think the eye doctor is just throwing darts at the dartboard for lack of a better idea. I'll just give the doctors time to figure things out. It's definitely depressing getting old and gaining new ailments constantly. Can't seem to conquer one thing before another pops up. We sure have turned into a bunch of grumbling old hens and I hate it. Kind of glad that Ron is not here to see me fall apart, but a reassuring hug would be nice.
  7. And now, the plot thickens. I saw the eye doctor today to try different prisms for my double vision, but it seems my eyes have changed since last week. A red flag for the doctor as this is a possible symptom of Myasthenia Gravis. He is sending a request to my PCP to test me for this. Came home and tried to explain this to my PCP's office. It was like talking to a wall and of course there is no speaking to the doctor or PA. The words cooperation and doctor's office don't go together. So I'm in limbo again until the two doctors confer. On a good note, Marley's final bloodwork today was good so no more vet visits unless she has a flare up, just ongoing medication.
  8. Good for you, Kay. Proud of you for declining this time.
  9. Expecting 101 here today. Then back to 80's-90's. Summer waiting in the wings to arrive with a vengeance, I'm sure.
  10. I watched the Carol Burnett special last night. It was fun seeing the clips from her old show. It was one of my favorites, so silly. You couldn't help but laugh at the skits. Just good clean fun, so different from what is considered comedy now. She seems like a wonderful lady who has influenced and helped many younger performers.
  11. I'm sure that people without dogs think we're nuts for spending so much and maybe we are, but our dogs are family. When I worked for the phone company, I had vision insurance. Lost that at retirement. Medical eye problems are insurance covered, just not glasses. Premiums just continue to rise. Mine are about $400 a month in addition to Medicare.
  12. Thanks Gwen and Kay for your concern. What a mess you have just trying to get decent cell service! My son has been a Verizon customer for years and has no problems. I choke when I hear what a fancy phone costs. Sure glad I don't need one. So far, this has been my year for unexpected medical expenses. I've spent over $3000 so far on Marley. That will be an ongoing thing, but only $50 a month for pills after one more blood test hopefully. Now this thing with my eyes. Although insurance covers most of the stuff, there are certain tests that aren't covered as well as the glasses. I know the prism test lenses aren't. I learned a long time ago never to ask "What next?".
  13. I saw my ophthalmologist today and he is very concerned about my double vision(a lot more so than he was a year ago). He's not sure of the cause and wants to run more tests as well as look at the CT that I had done. Depending on the cause, it's possible this can be corrected with prism glasses. There are press on prisms for glasses to see which is the correct one to prescribe before the actual grinding of the lenses is done. He said it's very difficult to get them right. So another appt. with him next Monday to test the prisms.
  14. That's good to know, Gwen. Do the patches seem to ease the pain? The only pain patch I'm familiar with is Fentanyl which along with a Morphine and Dilaudid pump was used for my daughter in her last weeks. She was either asleep or out of her head then which, I suppose was a blessing. Not a time that I like to remember. FYI, your last post cut off in the middle.
  15. I'm not sure this pain clinic is doing you any favors by trading one opiate for another, and a stronger one at that. Why you you be experiencing withdrawal if the patches are stronger? Something is not right and I know you feel helpless with it all. Just worried about you fighting all this alone. I watched a documentary called "The Elephant In The Living Room" about people who keep exotic animals in their homes or on their property. It was good, but so sad. I had always assumed this was illegal, but apparently isn't in some states. Of course there are pros and cons to this. Most of the animals are treated like family. Just don't think I'd want a full grown cougar roaming around in my backyard. For some reason, this movie is stuck in my brain. Guess it's because I love and respect animals.
  16. Kay, I don't know if you have anyone in your area, but here the local news stations have consumer advocates that help people deal with businesses like this. You might check into it.
  17. Gwen, so worried about what this woman is doing to you. Why were police called? Don't let her bs you. She was "slipping" long before she met you. There just has to be someone better out there to meet your needs.
  18. Dang Marg!! Sooo glad you didn't break anything, but I'm sure you are stiff and sore. I suppose my worst fall so far(knock on wood) was the nose dive I took in the dark hallway over the black dog. Simply didn't see her and she's a huge dog. Ended up with a skinned elbow and big bruise on my hip. The advantage is that there is always someone here to pick me up. I never go anywhere alone and don't do curbs well(no depth perception). You know you're old when your son has to help you on and off the sidewalk. A far cry from the girl who used to leap onto her horse and gallup away....
  19. Marg, don't feel bad. I was afraid too, but it turned out to be no big deal, especially the second one because you know what to expect. Distance vision is clearer and colors brighter. It just didn't correct the double vision.
  20. Sitting on 98 right now. Just a practice run. Dropping back down into 80's next several days.
  21. Thanks for your input, Kay. I've never had a cholesterol problem. No matter how fast you run, old age seems to catch up with a person. I admire your willpower with your diet. My family and I would never do it, plus I really don't like to cook. I'm just glad I don't have a brain tumor.
  22. Hello to Joyce, Ana, and Dee! With the exception of our Ana, I guess the rest of us are just coping with physical ailments provided by our "golden" years. Some good news for me. I saw the doctor about CT results. No abnormalities found and nothing that would contribute to my double vision. There is slight hardening of the arteries in the brain which are age appropriate. Doctor has prescribed cholesterol med as a stroke deterrent. All in all, I'm in pretty good shape for an old broad! I see the ophthalmologist in 2 weeks to get his take on things. He couldn't figure it out last year.
  23. Still here, Kay. It seems lately that it is just you, me, Gwen, and Marg posting. Hope this means our friends are doing well. Gwen, sure hope the patch makes your pain non existent or at least tolerable. Could it be Dee's liver problem making her sick? What about her treatments? We finally had to turn on the AC. Going into the 90's starting Sunday.
  24. Marg, just glad to hear that you and yours are safe, even if you maybe are a bit soggy. I always worry when I hear about these wind monsters in your area of the country. Hunker down!
  25. Gwen, glad the fall didn't have any adverse effects. I had the CT a week ago. It was of my head. Doctor is looking for the cause of my double vision. I can only assume something bad was found as he wants to "discuss" the results. They have always given me other test results over the phone.
