''Things are as they are. Looking out into it the universe at night, we make no comparisons between right and wrong stars, nor between well and badly arranged constellations.'' - Alan Watts

Mitch, to post that quote speaks a lot to where you are and where you are going. It speaks to all of us.

One day at a time buddy. One day at a time.

Something to think about.

One way to open your eyes is to ask yourself, “What if I had never seen this before? What if I knew I would never see it again?”

I love the dragonfly post. It's a reminder to us all to appreciate what is here. I think it was Ipraisehim that said his wife had a dragonfly land on her like that, I've never experienced that, what a special moment!

The truth about grief...

There's no way around grief and loss: you can dodge all you want, but sooner or later you just have to go into it, through it, and, hopefully, come out the other side. The world you find there will never be the same as the world you left.   ~ Johnny Cash

I have found that to be so very true.

I am thankful for my eyesight. What are you thankful for?

Rain!  We finally got some rain!  I walked Arlie this morning and didn't wear a coat because it was 60 and with a coat felt too warm...I decided to take my chances on it raining again.  After three hot dry record months, I am very thankful for rain!

That photo is beautiful...is that a real plant?

Beautiful!  If it were a Christmas tree, it would need no ornaments!

And I, too, love the stick people.  :)

Compassion

Henri Nouwen Society's photo.

"Compassion is hard because it requires the inner disposition to go with others to the place where they are weak, vulnerable, lonely, and broken. But this in not our spontaneous response to suffering. What we desire most is to do away with suffering by fleeing from it or finding a quick cure for it.

Yet perhaps our greatest gift is our ability to enter into solidarity with those who suffer... When I reflect on my own life, I realize the moments of greatest comfort and consolation were moments when someone said, 'I cannot take your pain away, I cannot offer you a solution to you problem, but I can promise you that I won't leave you alone and will hold onto you as long and as well as I can.' There is much grief and pain in our lives, but what a blessing it is when we do not have to live our grief and pain alone. This is the gift of compassion." ‪#‎HenriNouwen‬ THE WAY OF THE HEART

Anne,

I am a big fan of Henri Nouwen, and this just proves why.  This is spot on.  When we lose someone that means the world to us, there is nothing anyone can do to "fix" it, sometimes there's nothing they can say that will help, but just being there means so much to us.

I am richer today because of the people I have met on my grief journey. I know people who are described in the quote below by Jeff Foster.

TO THE SENSITIVE ONES

Do not be ashamed of your sensitivity!
It has brought you many riches.
You see what others cannot see,
Feel what others are ashamed to feel.
You are more open, less numb.
You find it harder to turn a blind eye.
You have not closed your heart,
in spite of everything.
You are able to hold
the most intense highs
and the darkest lows
in your loving embrace.
(You know that neither define you.
Everything passes through.
You are a cosmic vessel.)
Celebrate your sensitivity!
It has kept you flexible and open.
You have remained close to wonder.
And awareness burns brightly in you.
Don't compare yourself with others.
Don't expect them to understand.
But teach them:
It’s okay to feel, deeply.
It’s okay to not know.
It’s okay to play
on the raw edge of life.
Life may seem ‘harder’ for you at times,
And often you are close to overwhelm.
But it’s harder still
to repress your overwhelming gifts.
Sensitive ones,
Bring some gentleness into this weary world!
Shine on with courageous sensitivity!
You are the light bearers!
- Jeff Foster
